I’m off to Rwanda!

Well, it looks like I have taken a long time to update this blog. I have dusted off my backpack and put on my traveling shoes once more. I am leaving tonight to begin my journey towards Rwanda. I will be living there for the next 5 weeks, leading a group of highschool students from around the country as we explore issues of HIV/AIDS and Public Health through the organization Putney Student Travel. I will try to update my blog. I will also be updating one for our parents as well, so should I fail to be faithful to this one, I will put up the link.
It is pretty exciting to be returning to Africa. I haven’t yet reconciled where this continent fits with my future, but I am very content to continue with the opportunities that are made available to me. Looking at the very practical issues of public health will help me to think theologically about some very concrete issues. I wish I could offer up more reflection now, but the half packed bags are beckoning to me. I only wish I could better transmit my excitement and anticipation (which is already subdued by the awareness of the great responsibility I have in leading these students as well). I will return to Oregon on August 4th.
In the meantime, please keep me and my team in your thoughts as we travel.
